Pre-launch operations are underway at BelNPP

02 December 2019

Pre-launch operations are being carried out at the first unit of Belarusian NPP, Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus Mikhail Mikhaduk stated recently.

Currently, BelNPP is preparing for one of the key stages in the schedule of pre-launch operations - access to the so-called hot run-in.

During this phase, nuclear fuel simulators will be located in the reactor zone. At this time, the reactor will be brought to operating parameters in terms of temperature and pressure and will conduct a test cycle. The next operation after the completion of this stage is the loading of fuel, the so-called physical start-up.

The design scheme ensured the supply of industrial water from the Viliya River to the NPP and the operation of the chemical water treatment system. Work is underway to ensure the readiness of all technological systems.

Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built under a Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno oblast). The general contractor for the construction of BelNPP is the engineering division of the state corporation Rosatom (ASE).
