CNNC to build HPR 1000 unit

Wang Shoujun, chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), signed a cooperation agreement with Muhammad Naeem, chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), on the construction of Unit 5 of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant (C-5) on Nov 21.

According to the agreement, CNNC will build a 1MKw class nuclear power unit with HPR 1000 technology at the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan. It is the seventh nuclear power unit that China has exported to Pakistan and the third unit exported with HPR 1000 technology.

CNNC has built four nuclear power units in Pakistan so far, with total installed capacity of 4.63 million kWs and operational capacity of more than 1.3 million kWs. It has helped resolve electricity shortages in Pakistan, and boosted the country’s economy and living standards.

The C-5 project will be constructed by CNNC China Zhongyuan Engineering Corp, a subsidiary of CNNC.
